Proper pressure washing is the most important step in any deck staining or restoration project, and it's also the most commonly skipped by DIYers. Staining or sealing over dirty, mouldy, or previously finished wood produces poor adhesion, blotchy colour, and a finish that fails in one to two seasons instead of the expected three to five. Our professional power washing uses commercial-grade equipment operating at pressures and water volumes far beyond what a rented residential unit can deliver. We calibrate the pressure and nozzle distance based on the wood type and condition — too much pressure on soft wood causes surface fuzzing and raised grain, while too little on hard or heavily soiled surfaces leaves contamination behind. We use appropriate deck cleaning solutions where needed to break down embedded mould, mildew, and grey oxidation before rinsing clean. After washing, we allow the correct drying time before any stain or sealer is applied — rushing this step causes moisture entrapment under the finish, which leads to bubbling and peeling.
